Young Advisors can support organisations on how to best consult with children and young people. We will design a consultation that will genuinely allow young people to have a say and get their opinions heard. From interactive workshops to online surveys and other innovative techniques, Young Advisors are able to consult in a variety of ways, reflecting the specific needs of the children and young people involved. We are regularly asked to attend a variety of multi-agency meetings to offer a young person's perspective and ensure that children and young people are having a genuine say in how services are provided in their communities.
We are contacted by a wide range of agencies to find out what young people feel about issues of importance. This starts a consultation design process that will genuinely allow young people to have a say and get their opinions heard. From interactive workshops to online surveys and other innovative techniques, Young Advisors are able to consult in a variety of ways depending on the specific needs of the children and young people involved.
Young Advisors use our skills and knowledge to facilitate meetings, workshops and events – for our own projects or to support other agencies and individuals that provide service users and participants with a meaningful role. We recently facilitated a Participation Strategy Development Day in Sefton, which brought together agencies from across a number of sectors, as well as young people, to start building a participation and youth voice strategy for Sefton.

We assess existing services, looking at how accessible they are for all people in the community (not just young people). We identify areas that a company is succeeding in and the aspects that need to be improved or changed. We then produce recommendations based on the results of this assessment.
After creating and delivering the report we can then work with the agency, company or organisation who commissioned us to help implement these changes. This may include youth-proofing policies, documents or procedures, offering training to staff, running consultation events with other service users and offering advice about making the services youth-friendly. We can offer something other organisations cannot and that is a youth perspective.
Services, policies, procedures, activities or documents can be transformed by us into something more accessible, not only to young people but everybody. This way, you keep everyone involved.
For example, recently we have youth proofed Sefton's Children's and Young People's Plan, providing young people with a more accessible version; we assisted Sefton@Work to youth proof a youth employment project ♯Yes
Young Advisors offer training for adults and young people on how to engage and communicate effectively. We can tailor our training to your specific project. Young Advisors can also develop training for young people that is ASDAN or AQA accredited. Some of our training packages include recruitment and selection, managing meetings effectively, setting up youth boards or youth voice groups.
YAs are also able to offer the ASDAN Accredited Award Scheme, for example the ASDAN activities award for peer tutoring. Young Advisors are also trained to deliver AQA accredited courses for young people.
Youth lead research is important when the area being investigated is directly linked to young people. Young Advisors are able to lead research and ensure that the correct information is obtained with the best possible outcomes. The Sefton Young Advisors team is part of a National network of Young Advisor teams and much of the national research is co-ordinated through YA HQ in Manchester.
We're fully trained to provide support and guidance for organisations wishing to utilise best methods of practice for engagement with young people, offering tailored advice for your project.
